Woody

Robert Woodward, known to his friends as Woody, was the victim of the Sunday, December 2nd, police attack. A resident of Bellows Falls, VT, he entered the All Souls Church in West Brattleboro, VT at the commencement of services around 10 AM to request sanctuary from persecution. Neighbors maintain they saw two men, apparently government agents, visit his apartment Saturday evening.

Woody departed from a friend's house around 1:30 AM Saturday night, and his whereabouts between then and the time he entered the church remain unknown.

Earlier that evening and before the purported visit by government agents, Woody had been at a birthday party. Friends at that party said there was nothing unusual about his behavior. He was his usual spirited self, and had been entertaining children with puppets.

According to eyewitnesses, Woody was wearing a baggy pants and a sweater when he entered the church. He removed the sweater, under which he was wearing a T-shirt. He seemed to be short of breath, as if he had run up the hill.

A slight man of only 140 lbs, Woody was non-threatening in physique as well as demeanor, inspite of his fearful, agitated state. One eyewitnesses said of him:

I mean, I was a little concerned about it, but he didn't look like a kid that would ever hurt a fly, you know.
