Woody's Veganism

Woody was a vegetarian throughout his adult life, and a vegan in recent years(*). Woody also attempted to avoid using leather products. All of these practices grew out of his desires to avoid cruelty to and the killing of animals, and to minimize his impact on the earth. A vegetarian or vegan diet has far less impact because it takes only a small fraction of the resources to produce plant food as it takes to produce animal food. It takes approximately 24 pounds of plant protein to produce a single pound of beef protein. The demand for arable land to raise cattle is one of the primary forces behind the destruction of the rainforests in areas such as Brazil.

(*) A vegetarian is a person who does not eat any animal flesh (including that of birds, fish, mollusks, or crustaceans). A vegan is a person who does not eat any animal products, including eggs, dairy products, or honey.
